Here at Merridale Cidery & Distillery, we are proud to announce two significant wins at the prestigious World Cider Awards. Celebrating excellence in taste and design, the World Cider Awards are renowned for their rigorous judging process and international panel of cider experts.

We are particularly excited about this win in light of the exceptional level of the competition. The awards bring together ciders from around the world, including established cider producers like England, France, and Germany, as well as emerging regions.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by such a high calibre of judges on the world stage. It’s truly an honour to have our small, family-owned cidery stand out amongst some of the world’s largest cideries. These awards are a testament to our team’s dedication to producing exceptional orchard-to-glass ciders made from fruit that we grow, ferment, and package with pride.”

At the World Cider Awards, ciders are entered into various Taste categories, including best Sparkling, Flavoured, and Specialty cider, with awards presented for different styles, production processes, and varieties of apples and pears.

Merridale’s awards include two medals in the Flavoured Cider Category: Scrumpy won a Silver Medal for Wood Fermented Aged Cider and Mo’Moro won a Silver Medal for Hopped Cider.

Jeff Phillips, Cider Master at Merridale explains what sets these outstanding ciders apart:

“Drawing on traditional methods, Scrumpy is a blend of perfectly ripe, high tannin cider apples, fermented slowly, and aged in French and American oak barrels for up to two years. Mo’Moro is a unique hopped cider, distinguished by its dry-hopping process at a much cooler temperature for an extended period. The result is a cleaner, crisper, and less bitter profile with a fruity aroma.”

The awards come on the heels of victories at two other prestigious competitions for Merridale this year. Merridale’s Traditional, Mo’moro, and Merri Berri ciders each picked up a Gold award at the Seattle International Cider & Perry Awards, while Merri Berri won a Double Gold and Cowichan Dry won a Silver at the Cidercraft Awards.

“These awards are dedicated to our team and our customers,” Docherty notes. “Our team is fueled by passion, creativity, and a commitment to excellence, while our customers constantly inspire us with their support, feedback, and ideas. It means the world to us to have our ‘little cider company that could’ in Cobble Hill recognized among the best ciders in the world.”
