His wealth of knowledge, his contagious enthusiasm for the industry, and his ability to explain the science and art of distillation in an easy-to-understand manner will be a learning experience for those truly wanting to appreciate the world of craft spirits.
In this first-time offering to YOU, our licensees, you’ll have the rare opportunity to taste spirits straight from the barrel, engaging all your senses to fully appreciate the patience, precision, and passion that create the perfect balance of flavors.
The experience will be further enhanced with a Q & A session and delectable morsels from the Merridale kitchen.
About Laurent Lafluent
He is a Swiss-trained, French winemaker who joined Merridale Cidery and Distillery in April 2012. Between 1995 and 1999, Laurent completed a degree in Oenology and Viticulture (Engr. HES) in Switzerland, specializing in distillation. This led to two scientific publications, and several awards. By 2001, he was working as the R&D Officer for Demerara Distillers, a 50-million-liter rum distillery in British Guyana, where he created an impressive portfolio. In 2003, he moved to Antigua (West Indies) as the Master Blender for Antigua Distillery Ltd, managing rum production and upgrading it to world-class manufacturer status. Ten years of rum making in the West Indies allowed Laurent to master distilling, blending, and product development principles and techniques. In 2005, he immigrated to Canada, and since 2012 he has been based on Vancouver Island. Laurent’s expertise as a veteran Master Distiller has earned us numerous national and international awards.
